WORKSHOP - JANUARY 24TH – THE UNION OF THE ROMANIAN PRINCIPALITIES

Thursday, 19.01.2023 starting at 12:00, the Center for Danubian Studies and Research together with the Faculty of Communication and International Relations organizes the Workshop with the theme "JANUARY 24TH – THE UNION OF THE ROMANIAN PRINCIPALITIES". The event is intended for teaching staff as well as students, master's students and graduates of Danubius University and will be held online.

OBJECTIVE OF THE WORKSHOP

The Union of the Romanian Principalities is an event that is celebrated nationally on January 24. This day is a tribute to a historical moment that occurred on January 24, 1859, by which the provinces of Moldova and Wallachia were united, thanks to the double election of Alexandru Ioan Cuza as lord of the two countries.

The union of Moldova with Wallachia had a wide echo in Transylvania, the Romanians here linking their hopes of national liberation to the existence of the Romanian state. The union of 1859 - the result of the struggle led by the popular masses, by the patriotic scholars of the time, an event viewed with sympathy by advanced international public opinion - marked a historical moment of crucial importance in the life of the Romanian people, constituting a premise for the great union from December 1, 1918 , when the long legal process of forming the Romanian unitary national state ended.

To deepen this topic and make people understand what we celebrate on January 24 and why we call this day the Union of Romanian Principalities, we invite you to participate in the Workshop.
