Associate Professor Gabriela Marchis PhD., Special Online Guest at “Claflin” University, U.S.A.

Gabriela Marchis, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Coordinator of the European Documentation Centre “EuroInfoGhid” at “Danubius University of Galati” had recently the privilege to be a special online guest within one of Dr. Cynthia Duncan Joseph’s (Director of Freshman College, “Claflin” University, South Carolina, U.S.A.) courses.

The two of them met on the occasion of the international conference “Two Democratic Societies in Transition: The Dynamics of a Post-COVID World” hosted by “Danubius University of Galați” between the 13th  and 15th of September, when Dr. Duncan Joseph invited Dr. Marchis to talk to her American students about European politics in general and E.U. in globalized society, in particular, during a Political Science Globalization class.

Dr. Marchis prepared an insightful and entertaining presentation under the overreaching title “Global Dynamics and Regional Transformation” which she delivered to the American students, most of them juniors, sociology and political science majors. As a follow-up, the young participants were asked to write a few testimonials about this enlightening experience (you can find two of them below). Moreover, Dr. Marchis sent to them a virtual gift, on behalf of the European Documentation Centre “EuroInfoGhid”, mainly a book called “The European Union – What it is and what it does”, that the students found really appealing.

“Dr. Gabriela Marchis’s presentation on <<Global Dynamics and Regional Transformation>> was very informational and thought provoking. As a political science major with plans to work along the African Union to improve the livelihood of the African continent, learning more about the European Union and its members’ efforts to transform their countries for the better was beneficial. Also, the ability of E.U. members to compromise and cooperate for a better future is amazing to me. This is not something you see in America, so being able to learn more about the benefits that members of the E.U. receive as a result of cooperation and comparing that to American policy was interesting. I would love to see America adopt policies similar to the European Union in the future. I am grateful to Dr. Marchis for taking time out of her day to speak with us. I look forward to utilizing her message and the small gift to achieve my career goals within the African Union” (Oghenehoke Johnson, “Claflin” University).

“I enjoyed the presentation because it was very engaging and informative. My classmates and I were able to ask Dr. Marchis questions and interact with her virtually. I found it interesting having a guest speaker from a different country. Something that I learned that I did not know was that the E.U. is an international and supranational organization. Also, the E.U. has been a beneficial organization for nearly seventy years. I was able to get a different viewpoint on Dr. Marchis’s perspectives on globalization, and issues that are going on worldwide” (Nya Grantham, “Claflin” University).
