School of International Governance & Law

Law Moot Society

Dear Students,

With great joy and a deep sense of academic pride, we are delighted to officially announce the establishment of the Law Moot Society of the Faculty of Law and International Governance—a small universe of excellence, dialogue, and high-level legal training.

This initiative represents our Faculty’s firm commitment to providing students with genuine opportunities for professional development through participation in national and international moot court competitions, the organisation of legal simulations, practical workshops, and interdisciplinary research sessions.

The Law Moot Society is a student-led structure, a laboratory of innovative legal ideas, a launchpad for academic and professional excellence, and a platform through which you will meet peers and engage in an environment where legal rigour intertwines with critical thinking, international collaboration, and academic ethics.

Starting with this academic year, the Society will organise:

  1. internal and international moot court competitions;

  2. training sessions on drafting legal documents and oral pleadings;

  3. participation in national and international competitions;

  4. partnerships with courts, bar associations, embassies, NGOs, and universities both in Romania and abroad;

  5. academic events and multi-, trans-, and interdisciplinary debates.

The word “moot” originally meant a deliberative assembly, council, court, or judicial gathering. From the fifteenth century onwards, the term “moot” was adopted within the academic legal environment in England—particularly within the Inns of Court, the professional training institutions for barristers—to designate student legal simulations. These exercises were designed to develop students’ advocacy, legal reasoning, and interpretative skills.

Today, in both academic and legal contexts, the term “moot court” has spread internationally and refers to an academic simulation of judicial proceedings, in which students prepare written submissions and deliver oral pleadings before a panel acting as a court.

I wholeheartedly encourage you to take an active part in the Society’s activities—as members, competitors, researchers, or volunteers. The Law Moot Society is the place where passion for the law is transformed into competence, courage, and a global vision.

Let us build together a strong, internationalised, and forward-looking academic community, capable of shaping the next generation of legal professionals.

With enthusiasm and confidence,

The School of International Governance and Law of Danubius International University proudly announces the outstanding success of the international webinar “How to Start and Develop a Law Moot Society: First Steps, Good Practices, and International Perspectives”, held on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, in the Senate Hall and online.
Organised under the guidance of the Dean, Assoc. The University’s Rector & CEO, dr. Steve O. Michael, and the President of the Board, dr. Andy Pușcă, delivered key interventions.

The webinar brought together distinguished experts from King’s College London:

  • Dr Darren Harvey, Senior Lecturer in Law & Director of Undergraduate Studies

alongside a special contribution from three renowned participants in prestigious international competitions:

  • Joseph Day(European Law Moot Court)
