Permanent column in the magazine “România literară” (“Literary Romania”), signed by a professor of the DIU

We are pleased to announce that Professor Cristinel Munteanu, PhD, teaching at the School of Media, Design and Technology of the Danubius International University of Galați, was recently invited by the editorial board of the magazine “România literară” (belonging to the Romanian Writers’ Union; a magazine also indexed, as a journal, in EBSCO) to found a special column dedicated to various manifestations of language and/or communication.

In this regard, the professor told us the following: ‘The fact that I was entrusted, after almost two years of journalistic collaboration, with a permanent column in the pages of the prestigious cultural magazine “România literară” represents, for me, a recognition and, at the same time, an honor (doubled, naturally, by a certain responsibility). As is known, the well-known linguist Rodica Zafiu (corresponding member of the Romanian Academy) had had in RL, until 2012 (when she moved to “Dilema Veche”), a similar column (called Păcatele limbii [‘The Sins of Language’]). My column is entitled Tâlcurile limbii [‘The Meanings of Language’], precisely because I want to approach several aspects related to language: not only from a phraseological perspective (regarding the origin of Romanian idiomatic expressions, for example), but also appealing to semiotics, hermeneutics, philosophy of language etc. As such, I intend that at least part of the results of the activity I have carried out (starting in 2020) at the Center for Hermeneutics “Symbols and Texts” (CHeST) of the Danubius International University become, in this way, more visible to the educated public.’

We would like to point out that the section Tâlcurile limbii was inaugurated with the publication of issue 46 (of October 31, 2025) of the magazine “Romania literară”, thanks to the article Verzi și uscate [‘Green and Withered’] signed by Professor Cristinel Munteanu, an article in which, beyond the etymology of the respective idiomatic expression, a particularity of human expression in general is also taken into account. Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Michael states, “I have been fortunate to travel the world and observe the power of good education in transforming civilizations and humanity, even as I have regrettably observed the impact of miseducation that fuels human conflicts, racism, ultra-nationalism, xenophobia, and poverty. I have found homes far from home and families that extend beyond our narrow definitions of what they are. To my family, my international families, and future contributors to world peace and progress, I dedicate this Award.”
